The cover has a nice wide and soft bevel around the edge and almost flat center. The seat itself has a very rounded surface. The surface is very, very high gloss so blends great with the ceramic fixtures. The paint finish is just slightly less smooth than ceramic glaze but really close. It's actually pretty luxurious looking considering it is a moderate price level. I suspect the paint on this might not ever chip as it's finshed so nicely. It's also a heavy wood. My old A.S. seat was terrible quality compared to this! The plastic hinges match the seat color perfectly too. I've had it installed for a couple of months now, and I think the rubber bases and metal inserts in the hinges are helping to keep the seat tightly in place. My old one came loose all he time.
